Jamshedpur, Aug. 16: The teachers of the six newly converted constituent colleges, under the Ranchi University, have threatened to go on strike if their salary dues are not cleared before August 20.
The teaching staff in all the six colleges ? Abdul Bari Memorial College (Jamshedpur), PPK College (Bundu), Karam Chand Bhagat College (Bero), SP Jalan College (Sisai), SJ Namdhari Singh College (Garwah) and Mandar College (Mandar) have failed to receive their salaries for the past five months. The failure has been attributed to the absence of pay fixation.
The Supreme Court, in a ruling passed in October last year, had directed the university and the state human resource development department to fix the salaries of the teaching, as well as the non-teaching staff in all the newly converted constituent colleges. The colleges were elevated to the status of constituent college, from affiliated college, in 1986.
Over 400 teaching staff have been affected by the non-payment of salaries and threaten to go on strike if their demands are not met by August 20. Though the varsity has cleared the pending salary of all the constituent colleges for four months (April to July) in July, the teaching and the non-teaching staff in the six colleges have failed to receive their salaries. University spokesperson S.S. Akhtar said the matter has been referred to the state government.
University sources revealed that the Apex Court judgement was meant for all the newly converted constituent colleges in Bihar and Jharkhand. There are eight such colleges under two state universities ? Sidhu Kanhu and Vinobha Bhave.
Sources said the Bihar government had implemented a new UGC pay scale in 28 newly converted constituent colleges from this July. The Supreme Court order stating that the teachers working for a sanctioned post in the newly converted constituent colleges should be absorbed in the respective institution.
Moreover, it also directed the university to issue an absorption order for those teaching staff whose names have been recommended, until April 1986, to the university by the colleges.
