Tata Steel is installing ultra high-definition (HD) CCTV cameras on important arteries leading to its plant and close to areas it considers critical to beef up its security preparedness in Jamshedpur.
The ultra HD CCTV cameras, known for high-resolution, crystal clear picture quality, will be installed on Office Road and B Road stretches in Northern Town, Tata Main Hospital roundabout and Armoury Ground roundabout, as well as near company guesthouses and VVIP residences such as Chemmury Guest House (on B Road) and Director's Bungalow (near Keenan Stadium) for which groundwork is on.
An HD CCTV camera has already come up near New Director's Bungalow on Office Road. Though more areas deemed critical by Tata Steel are still being decided upon, tentatively 20 HD CCTV cameras will be put up.
According to a source in Tata Steel security department, the move is a part of the company's security augmentation plan. "We have already started installing CCTV cameras inside the plants at our vital installations. Now, important stretches and guesthouses will also be brought under camera surveillance. The installation process will be over in about a month," the source said.
Gopal Prasad Choudhary, Tata Steel chief of security and project director of integrated security solution services, confirmed the initiative.
"This is a part of the company's effort to enhance security inside and outside its plant. We will monitor the CCTV footage at our centre inside the company," he added.
Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar said the administration had given permission to Tata Steel to install HD CCTV cameras that would function 24x7 on all roads leading to the plant and at critical locations of the company such as its guesthouses, hospital and roads leading to VVIP residences.
"The district administration has given Tata Steel permission to install CCTV cameras at its critical locations required by them in consultation with East Singhbhum senior superintendent of police Anoop T. Mathew," Dhalbhum SDO said.
Last December, Tata Steel, for the first time in its century-plus history, inducted a unit of State Industrial Security Force, a specialised force on the lines of Central Industrial Security Force. Till then, it relied on its security guards.
This apart, the company introduced augmented city surveillance and response capability last September, as a part of which 40 physically fit youths were recruited and trained for six months in first aid, area surveillance and bike patrol across Tata Steel command areas. Though they are on Tata Steel payroll, the police monitor their patrolling.
