Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: A three-day Rabindra Sangeet Conference-2005, aiming to spread Tagore?s music among youths, will begin tomorrow at Rabindra Bhavan.

Well-known exponents of Rabindra Sangeet from Calcutta and Bangladesh will participate in the conference which will have musical recitations and drama.

Officials of Tagore Society said though it is the third consecutive year of the conference, but it is for the first time that the event is being organised grandly.

?The prime focus of this year?s conference will be the younger generation. We feel that the youths of our community are going away from the traditional music. Through this conference, we want to make the younger generation know more about Rabindra Sangeet,? officials said.

Secretary of Tagore Society, Asish Choudhary, said the conference would be a treat for music lovers of the city. The artistes will motivate the youths to take an interest in the traditional music. About four artistes will perform at the conference every day.

Famous artistes from Calcutta including Srikanta Acharya, Purabi Mukherjee, Abhirup Guha Thakurata, Shantanu Roy Chowdhary, Sreenanda Mukherjee and Rezwana Chowdhary Banna from Bangladesh will participate in the conference.

A 20-member theatre group from Calcutta, Nrityanagam, will stage Rabindranath Tagore?s musical play Syama.

The play will be directed by Shanti Bose, a disciple of artiste Uday Shankar.

Moreover, the faculty members and students of Tagore Academy will also make their presentations during the conference.

Officials of Tagore Society said last year artistes like Manoj and Manisha Murli from Santiniketan had cast a spell with their performance. They hoped that the conference would be a success this year too.

Chowdhary said the society is also looking forward to organise the annual convocation of Tagore School of Arts in a grand manner. Well-known Bengali artistes and literary figures will participate at the function, expected to be held in February.
