Ranchi, June 23: To understand the domestic tourism market better, the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) would start a comprehensive study in the state.
The study would also focus on housing conditions and urban slums. It is slated to begin from early July and continue for over a year.
Various aspects of domestic tourism, including mode of travel, average amount spent on tourism and economic condition of families would be covered.
NSSO would also study the hospitality sector, various hotels and other facilities available at tourist locations and compare it with tourist demands.
“The domestic tourism sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy and employment generation. The survey could be used by policy makers and administrators for further advancement in the sector,” said S.K. Das, the deputy director-general of NSSO, Ranchi.
The NSSO, Ranchi unit, organised a three-day training programme for its field officers, which began today. Officers are being trained on data collection.
Apart from Das, J.K. Kar, the deputy director general, NSSO, Eastern Zone, R. Kujur, senior superintendent, NSSO, Ranchi, and over 60 field officers joined the training programme.
The NSSO also would focus its survey on housing conditions and urban slums.
NSSO officials said the survey would cover 12,928 sample units for “central samples” and 13,996 units for state samples. In Jharkhand the share of both central and state samples is 272 units each.
Under housing conditions, the NSSO wants to find out about facilities people have. The survey would come up with studies on rural housing facilities, too.
“Study under housing conditions would also cover what kind of toilet facilities people have. We would also look into the different types of kitchen, drawing rooms and bedrooms in homes across the state,” said Das.
