
Jamshedpur: They have done it!
A 19-member team that represented Jharkhand during an attempt by a 309-member Indian squad to set a new world record for skating non stop for 24 hours during matches organised by the Roll Ball Federation of India (RBFI) at Shiv Ganga Roller Skating Centre in Belgaum, Karnataka on May 18 and 19, have etched their names in the coveted Guinness Book of World Records.
The state mixed team in the Under-14, 17 and 19 groups (boys and girls) included Srikant Sahu, Uzma Khanam,, Anurag Majumdar, Subrata Gorai, Shresth Choudhary, Deepanshu Singh, Pratham Kashyap, Souvik Chakravarty, Uzair Farran, Karan Singh Sandhu, Vikhyat Khan, P Harshvardhan, Ridhima Anand, Arya Vats, Gunjan Sakhre, Ujjwal Pratap Singh, Aishwarya Singh, Adonis Minz and Monu Gupta. They are all wards of the Jamshedpur-based Tata Steel Roll Ball Skating Centre.
Revealing details Manoj Yadav, vice-president of RBFI, said the players will receive certificates from the Guinness authorities in two months.
"We received confirmation last night from the Guinness people that skaters from across India, including Jharkhand, have succeeded in playing matches for 24 hours at a stretch and certificates will be handed over to the players in two months," he added.
Expressing happiness, Yadav, also the president of Jharkhand Roll Ball Association (JRBA), was all praise for the performance of the state skaters. "They have proved their fitness with aplomb and never complained about anything while playing. We have plans to throw a grand party for them." He added.
Yadav, also the coordinator of the event said, "The match started at 5.05pm on May 18 and same time the following day. All the skaters have been handed over participation certificates and medals."
"Jharkhand players will be able to proudly say they are Guinness record holders," he said.
