Jamshedpur, April 3: There was a bit to cheer about in the Jharkhand camp on the second day of the Federation Cup Powerlifting Championship being held at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Although the state powerlifters could not net the gold medal in different weight categories, they found some solace in securing the second place in both the 67.5kg and 110kg category. The powerlifters had to take part in all the three categories — squat, bench press and deadlift and were judged on the basis of the total weight they lifted in all the categories.

Starting the proceedings, Ranjan Kumar Singh of Jharkhand missed out on the first place in the 67.5kg weight category after lifting a total of 642.5kg. He could not pip ahead of R. Magesh of Tamil Nadu, who lifted a total of 662.5kg to secure the gold.

Devi Prasad Chatterjee of Jharkhand also met with a similar fate in the 110kg category as he managed a total lift of 680kg to bag the second position. He was far behind from the first slot.

D. Shankar of Tamil Nadu surged ahead in the competition with a total lift of 710kg and bagged the gold in his kitty. On the other hand, K. Masilamani of Pondicherry claimed the top slot in the 75kg weight category with a total lift of 705kg. Ramesh Kumar of Chennai, who lifted a total of 647.5kg, could only make it to the second spot.

It was the turn of Maharashtra powerlifter Sandip Awari to net the gold medal in the 82.5kg weight category for men.

Awari lifted a total of 742.5kg to secure the first place while H. Dadapeer of Karnataka could manage the second position. Dadapeer lifted a total of 640kg and could not cross the 700 mark to win the silver medal in that event.

Tamil Nadu lifter S. Achutan reigned supreme in the 90kg men’s category and went on to secure the first place with a total lift of 675kg while Mukesh Pal of Uttarakhand secured the second place with a total lift of 630kg. Nitin Sharma of Madhya Pradesh lifted a total of 592.5kg in the same category.

In the 100kg weight category for men, B.S. Kholiya of Uttarakhand secured the first place with a total lift of 665kg while M. Shri Hari of Tamil Nadu secured the second position with a total lift of 627.5kg. In the above 125kg category for men, Amarpreet Singh of Chennai secured the first place with a total lift of 775kg.
