Hazaribagh: The district administration has started rating the work of block development officers of all the 17 blocks and also felicitate the highest scorer with the Best BDO of the Month title.

Chalkusa BDO Vivek Kishore was adjudged the best BDO for the month of October with 75.5% and felicitated with a certificate. The results were announced on November 18 and Kishore's portrait is currently adorning the notice board at the district collectorate.

According to deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla Hazaribagh became the first district to launch such a drive.

"Minister Jayant Sinha suggested us to rate the work of civic officials. So we thought of starting with the BDOs. We rated all 17 BDOs on the basis of thirteen parameters and asked them to fill self assessment forms," said Shukla.

Each of the 13 parameters carried a weightage of 5 to 15 marks. These include activities under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (15), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (10), Swachh Bharat Mission (5), completion of Indira Awas Yojna (5), 14th Finance Commission (5), block-level meetings of various schemes (5), field visits/inspection reports (10), complaints received (10), discipline (5), initiatives taken in respective blocks (10), compliance of departmental/officers' directions (10), law and order (5) and overall performance (5).

"The scorecard and the honour will boost the morale of the BDOs and instil a sense of competition among them," said the DC, adding in the coming days, a similar drive will be held for circle officers, marketing officers and child development project officers.
