The fathers of two Class IX students of Oxford Public School, a reputable CBSE cradle at Bahu Bazar in Ranchi, who have been permanently barred from class for "severe indiscipline", stormed the vice-principal's chamber on Monday in protest, prompting authorities to call up the police to "restore decorum".

According to the school management committee of the co-educational institution with 4,500 students from Prep to Class XII, the two 14-year-old boys used to habitually fight with classmates, exhibit abusive behaviour, bunk classes and skip class tests. They also failed the final exam in March and re-test in April.

Ultimately, the panel reached the conclusion that the duo should take transfer certificates (TCs) and leave school. Around one-and-a-half months ago, the boys were asked not to attend classes.

According to norm, parents have to apply for TC. But, the fathers, both businessmen in Chutia, have strongly refused to apply for TCs.

Vice-principal A.K. Singh said they had played fair. "We have a daily observation register where we recorded details of the boys' behaviour. They got into fights with classmates and played truant from class tests. We issued them two previous warnings but matters did not mend," Singh said.

He added the boys were of an impressionable age. With TCs, a fresh start at a new school might do them good.

"But, the behaviour of the fathers was disappointing," Singh said, referring to the way the two businessmen shouted at him on Monday. "Our school staff had to call police from Chutia (where they reside) and Namkum, (under whose jurisdiction the Bahu Bazar institution falls)," Singh said.

The fathers not only denied the charges levelled against the boys, they also claimed they "requested" vice-principal Singh to retain the boys in school. "If I apply for TC, where will my son take admission now in May?" one of the fathers said.?
