Ranchi, Aug. 29: An uphill task awaits the new senior superintendent, of police Ranchi, Anurag Gupta and superintendent of police Suman Gupta as the crime graph shows a steep rise in the last few months.

There has been as many as eight bank robberies in last few months. More then Rs 20 lakh has been robbed from the banks till date. But, the police have not been able to solve a single case.

Just before the new superintendent of police took over the charges, five dacoits looted Rs 15.4 lakh from the Corporation Bank near Dangra Toli under the Lalpur police station area at on July 31.

Again, on August 28, the rural bank of the Khijri Block was looted by dacoits who fled with Rs 3.95 lakh. Both the cases remain unsolved.

According to the police, a particular gang is involved in the robberies. A police official said, “Investigation reveals there is a single gang involved in these robberies. But, we need to make further investigations before closing in on the gang.”

Yet another police personnel said, “The Mantu Singh and the Diwakar Kachchap gangs are definitely involved in these dacoities. We have arrested some of their members of and hope to make a breakthrough soon.”

Absence of proper security arrangements at banks also helps the dacoits.

Though some of the banks deploy private security personnel, most of them are guarded by police.

There have been frequent complaints that the police men posted at the banks do not keep a proper vigil and are often caught napping.
