Two former referees of Jamshedpur may well have a role to play in the cash-rich Indian Super League (ISL) to be held in November.

Binod Kumar Singh and Navin Jaideep Sundi, who have officiated as football referees for years now, and are Tata Steel employees, are awaiting details of their schedules that will be revealed once the list of match officials is released by the league and All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Depending upon the AIFF list of officials and their respective match allotments, Singh and Sundi may be officiating in various capacities at ISL matches to be hosted at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur and elsewhere.

Singh, a former FIFA referee, has officiated as match commissioner in ISL matches. Sundi, who cleared the referee assessor test held by AIFF in May, is looking at his ISL debut.

Singh, also a referee instructor for AIFF and FIFS's fitness instructor, has presided over a number of international matches, including World Cup qualifying matches in Cambodia (2002) and Uzbekistan (2004), and Olympic qualifying round ties in Jordan (2003) as a FIFA referee.

Singh said he was expecting another stint with the ISL. "I have officiated as ISL match commissioner and hoping to officiate in the same capacity in the coming months," he said.

Shedding light on the role of a match commissioner, the highly experienced Singh said it involved safety of players and support staff, administration of matches and everything related to the ties. "It's a demanding job," he added.

Sundi, with over two decades of experience as a referee, is also hopeful of getting appointed as a referee assessor for ISL matches.

The job of a referee assessor involves assessing the performance of officiating referees, pointing out flaws in their decisions and guiding them.
