Ashoke Kumar Ghose, a.k.a. Bulu Ghose, is a familiar name for the music and cinema enthusiasts of Jharkhand. Ghose, who has struggled for more than 30 years to create a niche for himself, credits the many musical performances, audio albums and six original soundtrack for feature films he composed. ?Ulgulan-Ek Kranti' is his latest film where he has shown his talent yet again.
Not to be left behind, his 21 year old son Dipayan Ghose, barely 5 years into the industry, has 8 Nagpuri video albums in his kitty already. He has an added experience as sound engineer.
Creativity was always a part of Ghose?s genes. His father was a cinematographer in the Madras film industry and mother was a housewife. 'I am very happy that my parents encouraged me to pursue music. It is because of them that I am doing what I love to do. I was in college when I started a musical group with my brother Papa and three of his friends. The group was an instant hit and we became famous as Bulu-Papa duo. It was 1972 and we were the only group in the city who did stage shows' said Bulu.
Dipayan seems equally lucky as he received maximum support from his father. In fact Ghose finds great pride in the fact that his son followed his father?s footsteps. 'My son too showed interest in music from early age so I got him a Computer in his 13th birthday. Today, my son is a self-taught artist and engineer. He is far ahead of others his age. He wants to graduate in film making course to be the best the country' said the proud father. Dipayan works and records in the huge music studio that his father had built in the 80s?.
'I started my musical career with a guitar and a mouth organ, while my son started with key board and computer. I had gone through tremendous ups and downs in my career. In the 1980s hotels were being built in Ranchi and I fortunately got the chance of stage shows. I built my studio in the mid 80s? from the money I earned in my stage shows.' said Bulu.
Dipayan has learnt many lessons of life from his guru and father who he admires for the talent, integrity, humility and tremendous hard work. While his mother Mithali was a bit reluctant on her son?s foray into the world of music, it was his father's encouragement that helped him take the plunge.
'Dipayan is very intelligent and knows the requirement of an editor and grabs ideas and tunes very quickly. He has a strong sense of technicalities. But he is also very temperamental? said Bulu. If there is anything that Dipayan could change in his father it would be his short-temper. But he realises his father has very high expectations from him, which leads to the short-temper. ?He also works under tremendous pressure because a single error can ruin his reputation of 32 years. He is a perfectionist and does not compromise with quality' said Dipayan.
'My father is very devoted to his work and never gets tired. ' 'he is a very simple man. Had my father been like other musicians he would have made an excellent career in Mumbai but he does not want to quit the place where he started.?
