
Ranchi, July 6: A sub-committee formed to verify violation of mining rules by the 21 non-captive lease-holders of iron ore in West Singhbhum district will have to submit its detailed report by July 31.
Chief minister Raghubar Das set the deadline at a review of the state mines and geology department at Project Building in Ranchi today.
"Everything should be disposed of by July 31 so that the state government can take a final decision on whether the leases could be extended till March 31, 2020, or not in the cases of non-captive leases," an official Many of them have already replied to the state mines department and now the sub-committee would verify the facts on ground on a case-to-case basis.
A committee chaired by the development commissioner, with members including forest, mines and law secretaries, PCCF (nodal) and PCCF (wildlife) officials, was notified by the state cabinet co-ordination department on June 9.
The panel held its first meeting on June 23 wherein authorities decided to form a sub-committee, which will physically verify the mines concerned to help the committee take its final decision on leases.
Today, Das also asked the authorities to ensure that people affected by the closure of three iron ore mines of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in West Singhbhum district get rehabilitated properly.
SAIL has a total of 12 leases in the state, which include three at Karampada and one each at Jilingburu I, Gua Topoilor, Budhaburu Meclan, Ankua, Budhaburu-Dhobil, Gua-Durgaiburu, Jilingburu-I, Budhaburu and Sukri Luturburu.
The last three mines are not in operation since 2004 after the state government cancelled the leases that year.
