Jamshedpur, Feb. 12: If tinsel town stars added to the Games grandeur in the state capital, local artistes will ensure that the entertainment quotient remains high in the steel city.

From Chhau to bhangra, classical to Ghazal, Sufi songs to Hindi numbers — the Games gala here will be a tribute to different cultures.

Starting with a Chhau exhibition by Nrutyakala Mandir tomorrow, the cultural extravaganza will continue till February 25. The shows will be hosted on a large stage that has come up right in front of the food court near JRD Tata Sports Complex.

“The list of participants has already been drawn up and we are ready for the shows,” said Ashok Ghosh, convener of the Games ceremonies and cultural committee.

“Several local artistes had expressed their desire to perform but we had to choose a few. Besides, we wanted to present a mix of shows to the visitors,” he added.

The Chhau performance will be followed by a presentation by a classical music group on February 14 while a dance troupe of Tata Steel’s Urban Services will regale the audience on February 15.

February 16 has been reserved for Pragya Banerjee and Pradip Bhattacharya, who will entertain the audience with old classical melodies, Sufi songs and Hindi film numbers. Two dance items will also find a place in the fixture.

Popular Ghazal exponent T. Babu Rao will perform on February 17. Sanatan Deep will join the celebrations with renditions of sufi songs on February 18 while a dance troupe from Jamshedpur Women’s College will light up the evening for the 1,500-plus participants.

The Sabita group, which comprises 16 boys and girls, will come up with a dance performance the next day.

Contemporary, free style and semi-classical western dance by Saptak will be a part of the cultural treat on February 20 followed a dandiya raas and orchestra on February 21.

A two-and-a-half-hour dance show based on classical and popular songs will keep the visitors tuned in on February 23 while the next day will see a Ghazal presentation by Sujan.

Besides Rupam Sinha, tribal dancers of Nrityakala Mandir will also perform on February 24. The curtains on the revelry will come down on February 25 with a bhangra show by Punjabi Soor, a local cultural group.
