Scissors in surgery botch-up

A pair of scissors have been detected in the stomach of a resident of Sini, H.K. Mahato (26), following an X-Ray. Mahato was operated in a city hospital in the last week of December. The surgeon stitched the stomach of the patient without removing the scissors. The victim and his family members met JMM MLA Dulal Bhuiyan, who took the youth to MGM Hospital, and admitted him this evening. “We have demanded that an FIR be filed against the errant doctor and the victim be given Rs 10 lakh in cash as compensation for the pain and trauma that he has undergone due to the fault of that surgeon,” Bhuiyan added.

Mishap

A village chawkidar, R. Puran, was killed in a road accident near Debanki village under Potka police station on Tuesday morning. He was coming to city in a 407 model truck, when he suddenly fell down from that vehicle at Potka-Hata road. He died on the spot.

Rally

Employees of LIC and public sector banks of the city took out a rally on Tuesday to show solidarity for Parliament gherao programme slated to take place on Wednesday at Delhi. Different trade unions of the public sector financial institutions have decided to gherao Parliament in protest against the Union government’s economic policies. The rally started from Bank of Baroda in Bistupur and after passing through different thoroughfares, culminated near that bank.

Exams

Eight examinees were suspended from different centres at Chaibasa in the adjoining West Singhbhum district on Tuesday as they were allegedly using unfair means in the matric examination. In East Singhbhum district, the examinations began on a peaceful note with no untoward reports from any of the centres in this district.

Meeting

Intuc leader Rakeshwar Pandey held a meeting on Tuesday evening with employees of the ailing Indian Cable Company and apprised them of the efforts that are being made to re-open that unit. “We have told the workers of the company about the meetings that have taken place between Nicco company authorities that are exploring possibilities to run the unit,” Pandey said. He added that the deliberations that he had with state government officials were also discussed.
