Jamshedpur: Steel city schools have taken up the cudgels to ensure students receive adequate global exposure.

Around 10 city schools have decided to apply for International School Award (ISA), an accreditation programme run by British Council.

The accreditation provides a platform to schools to collaborate with international institutions and create a rich learning experience for students.

DBMS English School in Kadma and Kerala Samajam Model School in Sakchi were the first two cradles in the steel city to acquire ISA accreditation in 2010.

Currently over 22 English medium schools in Jamshedpur already enjoy the accreditation that is valid for three years. While some schools have reapplied for the accreditation for the academic session 2018-20, others are applying it for the first time.

"As an educational institution we want to give our students proper exposure in academics. Acquiring the ISA tag teaches students to respect foreign cultures, learn about their teaching methods and get a global exposure," said Meena Bugli, principal of DBMS Kadma High School.

The school in Kadma also organised a host of activities for its students to help them understand foreign culture better.

While junior school students did a project on various fruits available across the world; schoolchildren from Classes V to VIII researched on dance forms in Brazil. Students from Classes XI to XII staged a fashion show on Wednesday displaying apparel from Japan, Peru and Denmark.

Kasidih High School will partner with schools in Israel and Lebanon to discuss global cuisines and women empowerment. The school is also eyeing partnerships with schools of United Kingdom, Ghana, Egypt and USA, as part of ISA.

"It's great to see children talk about global issues over Skype. ISA gives that platform to let our students interact with students of other countries, which otherwise wouldn't have been possible. That's the reason Jamshedpur schools are always on the look out to get the accreditation," said Francis Joseph, principal, Kasidih High School.
