Jamshedpur, July 31: The weight loss programme being conducted at JRD Tata Complex organised for the Tata Steel employees and their spouses seems to point that fitness is really in, no matter what the age.
Already in the past few days, 60 women have enrolled, with entries continuing to pour in, and the organisers no longer being able to adjust all of them.
The camp is at present restricted for the women of the Tata Steel, but seeing the huge success of the camp, the management may well plan to organise more such camps in the future, which will be open to more people.
“As word has spread about the benefits of the camp, more entries are coming in. But we can’t accept all the entries at this late stage. We do not only have to educate them, but show them concrete results, too,” said former Bihar cricket captain and trainer K.V.P.Rao.
The weight loss camp was the brainchild of Satish Pillai, the chief of sports department. “A woman is the chief organiser of a house and for executing her responsibilities successfully, she has to be physically fit. Most of the women, because of their negligence, become overweight and that hampers their personal and social life,” he said.
In this camp, the participants are those who weigh above 75 kg and the participant women are aged in their early 30s to late 50s.
For the participants, the day starts early at 6.30 in the morning with a brisk walk, which is again repeated at 5.15 in the evening. The session starts with brisk walking, followed by slow jogging, apart from aerobics, yoga and ground exercises. The weight loss apart, the participants claim to be having a lot of fun, too.
“I am really feeling very light. I have lost a lot of weight in just seven days. And also learnt that regular exercise and restrained life is the way to be fit,” said Shukla Sengupta.
Poonam Prasad, the chief instructor, said incorrect lifestyle and improper eating habits were in large measures responsible for the growing number of obese people.
Prior to organisation of the camp, the instructors underwent a lot of home work and gathered information through the internet, magazines, nutritionists.
“People should at no cost take the help of medicines to reduce weight without the recommendation of a doctor and they should not skip breakfast at any cost. Junk food should be a strict no-no as they only increase calories and have no food value,” she said.
