Jamshedpur, June 30: From now on, Gujarati-speaking people would have a platform to display their traditional arts and talents.

Enterprising people of the community have formed The Gujarat Club in Jamshedpur to promote their traditional art and culture. The club has tied up with Calcutta-based 75-year-old The Gujarat Club.

Members of the Gujarati community recently met at Fortune Hotel Centre Point to work out the modalities of the club. “The aim of the club would be to promote the traditional art and culture of Gujarat and forge unity in the community,” said Smita Parikh, the founder member of The Gujarat Club, Jamshedpur.

“Parsees are also welcome to join the club,” she said. “Jamshedpur is a mini cosmopolitan city. We have a Gujarati-speaking people in large numbers, she said. “The steel city has a good presence of the Gujarati-speaking Jains, Vaishnavs, Surtis, Parsees, Sonis and Brahmins. We intend to provide them a platform with a common identity as “Gujarati,” Smita said.

“We feel that caste differences hamper the rich heritage of the Gujarati community and is a hurdle in promoting art and culture of the state, she added.
