Ranchi/Jamshedpur/Dhanbad/Bokaro, May 19: The ICSE and ISC show in Jharkhand has been, to say the least, fair this year.
In keeping with the national trend, girls outscored boys in the Class X and XII board exams — conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations — in the state too with most schools recording the best performance by the fairer sex.
In capital Ranchi, the ICSE girl gang included Shailja Raj of Sacred Heart Convent (98 per cent), Aditi Roy and Komal Gupta (97.6 per cent) and Anjali Bharti and Aditi Das (97.2 per cent) — all four from the same school. Sapna Agarwal of Bishop Westcott Girls’ School, Doranda, impressed with 97 per cent while Jaya Dodeja of Loreto Convent secured 96.8 per cent.
“I feel great as I had not expected to perform so well. It was all because of the support of my school and blessings of my parents, who had confidence in me,” said Shailja, who did not take any tuition but studied 10 hours a day,
Loreto Convent’s Jaya, however, expected more. “I scored highest in mathematics though my marks in environmental science was little low as I got just 92 per cent,” she said.
The story was same in steel city Jamshedpur where girls stayed ahead in both ICSE and ISC. Sheetal Prasad Pasam of Little Flower School made her school proud with 98.2 per cent. Kishlay Raj of Rajendra Vidyalaya chipped in with 98 per cent and Mariam Anwar of Sacred Heart Convent School continued the fair trend with 97.8 per cent.
In ISC science, Shrestha Ghosh of Hill Top School called the shots with 97.50 per cent. “This trend of great performance by girls shows that in a country like India where female foeticide is still the biggest concern, families in the city have realised that girls are intelligent too and are giving them a chance to study,” said principal of Hill Top School Puneeta Chouhan.
Dhanbad’s hall of fame shone the brightest as it flaunted the name of Madhavi Singh, an ICSE examinee from Carmel School who made not only her school, but the state proud with a brilliant 98.8 per cent. Shreya Sinha, a student of the same school, clinched 97.6 per cent.
Again girls stole the show in ISC commerce, thanks to Ishu Jain, also of Carmel School, who bagged 94.75 per cent. In arts, another girl of the same school, Debneeta Basu, managed 93 per cent while in Science, both Farheen Ezhar of Carmel School Dhanbad and Shreya Singh of De Nobili School, CMRI, shared the laurels with 92.75 per cent.
The success show was on in Bokaro too, where both CISCE-affiliated schools performed well. De Nobili School, Chandrapura (Bokaro), had its best ICSE achiever in Parnashree Bhuinyan, who pulled off a 96.2 per cent.
The other CISCE-affiliated school, St Xavier’s, was made proud by Priya Bhinjayan (95 per cent). St Xavier’s walked away with maximum laurels in ISC (commerce), thanks to Shruti Shubham (95 per cent), Arpita (94.75) and Aisdhwarya (92.5 per cent).
