As the summer sets in, seasonal fruits and vegetables flood markets in the capital. Fresh green and black grapes, ripe oranges, juicy watermelons, green chanas, bel fruits, pineapples and other juicy fruits are available in the market to tempt fruit lovers who have been waiting for the season all year round.
While several fruits are grown in and around the capital, some are also brought from outside. The commercial growers of the capital, who also get inputs from nearby horticulture institutes, grow the fruits. Jackfruit is rated to be one of the favourites in the capital.
People have started decorating their houses with different types of flags in the capital. While a few have decorated their houses with flags bearing stars on green backgrounds, others have decorated their houses with flags bearing “Om” and “Lord Hanuman” on red, yellow and saffron backgrounds.
“Sarana” flags were also seen at several places. The flags of different hues and sizes were a sight to behold as people paid equal respect to all of them. The number of flags is likely to increase in the coming days as part of “Ramnavmi” and “Chaitra Shukla Pratipada” celebrations.
Akhil Bharatiya Hasya Kavi Sammelan that was held on March 15 turned out to be a humorous treat for the residents of the steel city. The programme was organised by East Singhbhum Marwari Sammelan in association with Surabhi, a cultural organisation.
The audience at the G Town Club ground, which was the venue, remained glued to their seats throughout the night to witness the programme.
Though the programme was delayed by nearly two-hours due to heavy downpour, the audience waited for the participating poets who had come from across the country. The poets flavoured their poems with anecdotes, which regaled the audience who laughed their heart out. The programme that kicked off at 11 pm continued till 5 am the next morning.
The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India organised a corporate quiz, “Fact-03”, at the Rajendra Vidyalaya auditorium here recently. As many as 16 teams from various city-based companies participated in the quiz that was organised to check the knowledge of the participants in the area of FACT — finance, accounts, corporate law and taxation.
Inaugurating the programme, U.K. Chaturvedi, a Tata Steel senior official, shared the history of the institute in general and about the finance and accounts in particular.
Emphasising the relevance of the profession for the industry growth, he congratulated the organisers, as the programme promoted teamwork among the participants. The quiz contest has been organised since 1998.
The woes of the parents of mentally challenged children came up for discussion at a one-day workshop organised at School of Hope. The workshop was organised by the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur (West).
At the workshop, parents of mentally challenged children got an opportunity to have a face-to-face interaction with one another as well as with experts. The workshop was conducted by representatives of Deepsikha, a Ranchi-based institution for mentally and physically challenged children.
