Have you ever lost sleep about pesticides in your food? Fret not, a solution is on the way.
Organic vegetables and milk from near Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary straight to your high-rise flat or bungalow in the city may sound far-fetched but will soon be reality by June-end.
M'ma Farm, spread over 100 acres taken on lease on annuity basis from original settlers in Dalma forest range, some 20km from Jamshedpur, will provide pure milk from Dutch cows munching on fresh organic feed grown in Dalma and organic vegetables raised with cow dung-based vermicompost.
Purchasers can book orders for milk and vegetables on the website www.mmawithlove.com or email at order@mmawithlove.com or call on the mobile number 9031730990 or click on their currently-being-developed mobile app.
While it will help city dwellers make the switch from pesticide-stuffed or packaged foods to organic farm-fresh food that their great-grandparents once used to have, Mma Farm will also help youths in Dalma.
"Ours is a pilot project that can be replicated in other districts as a sustainable working model for jobless youths neglected by the government and private sectors," said Santosh Sharma, founder and patron of M'ma Farm.
Explaining why, he said Dalma region once had a large number of youths working in crusher units. The units closed when the area was declared eco-sensitive. "Though the youths protested they were getting jobless, they stayed so for years. Now, we have convinced these people to give us their land on lease on annuity basis at Rs 1,500 per bigha and have now also employed 50 to grow vegetables and take care of the Dutch Holstein Friesian cows," he said.
M'ma is inspired by the word ma, Sharma added.
"A mother gives the best to her child. Similarly, we'll give the best of milk and vegetables to our customers," Sharma said.
Instead of hay, the Dutch cows are fed a mix of organic grass high in protein, calcium, amino acids, folic acids and omega 3, he said. No pesticides or chemicals are used to grow the vegetables either.
Milk will be distributed within three hours of bottling and vegetables also within three hours of plucking, all in refrigerated vans to the city, he promised.
"A purchaser after keying in the quantity of vegetables on our website will get a message on his email or phone about the vegetables being plucked from our farms. Within two or three hours, vegetables will arrive at his doorstep for which he can pay by card or cash. For milk, we will have monthly orders and payment will be taken in advance," Sharma said.
"Right now, we are promoting our brand in Bistupur and will do so in Sakchi and Golmuri. We will start doorstep delivery by June-end," Sharma signed off.
