One of the seven directors of Sanjeevani Buildcon Private Limited — the fraud firm that swindled more than 100 people of their life’s earnings in the name of real estate — surrendered in court on Tuesday.
Judicial magistrate Manish Kumar has forwarded Shyam Kishore Gupta to Birsa Munda Central Jail till April 16.
With this development, the number of imprisoned accused in the residential land scam rose to 11. Earlier, police had arrested four directors Anamika Nandi, Aneeta Nandi, Arwind Kumar Singh and Rampratap Verma, general manager Ramesh Kumar and five marketing managers Ram Prasad, Sunil Kumar, Tapan Pal, Mukesh Chandra and Ramesh Singh.
The hunt is on for Sanjeevani’s chairman-cum-managing director Jayant Dayal Nandi.
Ranchi-based Sanjeevani Buildcon allegedly amassed crores of rupees by cheating 175-odd people from across the state and outside, including homemakers, doctors, engineers and retired army personnel, with the promise of land for their dream homes in the capital and its adjacent areas.
More than 175 FIRs were registered against the firm’s 32 officials and employees at various police stations of Ranchi in April-May 2012. An FIR was registered against Shyam Kishore Gupta on April 22, 2012, at Ormanjhi police station on the statement of one of the victims, Rakesh Kumar.
The FIRs prompted the then government to constitute a SIT, comprising police and CID officers. Chutia circle inspector Arwind Kumar Sinha was appointed the nodal officer to monitor cases registered against the company. On May 15, 2012, property of one of the directors was attached. The attachment list included a double-storey residence — Karan Villa on Cheshire Home Road — on the outskirts of Ranchi in the name of Anamika Nandi, who is also the second wife of the realty firm’s managing director Jayant Dayal Nandi.
Three trucks left the Nandi premises loaded with furniture, steel almirahs, a television set and refrigerators, besides several kitchen, drawing room and bedroom items.
