Jamshedpur, June 20: The cobra-catching expertise of 61-year-old N.K. Singh is all set to land him in the Amazon rain forests. He has recei- ved an invitation from the Discovery Channel to join its research team.

“I have received a call from A. Daniel, a researcher for the channel,” Singh said.

Singh, a former employee of Tata Steel’s electrical department, said Danial is researching on the poison of King Cobra in Amazon rain forests.

“Daniel called me on Wednesday and said he would be in Jamshedpur to watch my cobra-catching ability,” he added.

According to Singh, the Discovery team will be in the city to complete registration formalities for taking him in their team.

“It’s a big opportunity for me. The stint will provide me a chance to work on wider platform,” Singh, whose popularity has grown by leaps and bounds, said.

The snake charmer, who boasts of about 35,000 cobras in his snake farm at Kuchai in West Singhbhum, would also be heading to South Africa soon to tame the elusive Golden Cobras.

“The South African government has given me an assignment to catch Golden Cobras in a jungle near Johannesburg. These cobras climb trees,” Singh said, adding that his visa had already arrived. He is waiting for some formalities to be over before leaving.

If the recent chlorine gas leak in Telco proved to be a boon for him, the rain fury a couple of days back has made him ultra busy.

Singh, a resident of Bagbera suburb of the steel city, today got hold of a chiti snake and a python. “I have managed to catch over a dozen of cobras in the past two days. I have been getting calls on my cellphones frequently after water subsided,” he added.

“I got the chiti inside an industry at Sidhgora and tamed a python moving on the Mango bridge. I will release them to far-off places, as they are useless for me. Cobras are beneficial as I deal in their poison,” Singh said.

He warned the city people to be cautious as several snakes had come out in the open after the recent floods.

“Several snakes have been washed away in the flood. They can prove dangerous,” Singh said.
