Patna, May 17: Even as chief minister Nitish Kumar blamed the Union and Assam governments for not tackling the “murder” of migrant workers from Bihar “properly”, the JD (U) today staged a protest march to condemn the killings.
Today, over 100 protesters from JD (U) students’ wing shouted slogans against the Centre and Assam governments and burnt the effigy of Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi. JD (U) student wing leader Rakesh Yadav while talking to The Telegraph said: “Enough is enough. We want a neutral zone of examination centres for people from Bihar and a way to make travel safer for them.”
He said his people were being directly or indirectly targeted by Ulfa and politicians in Delhi and Mumbai. Yadav was referring to Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit’s recent remarks on Bihar people overcrowding Delhi and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and his estranged nephew Raj Thackeray’s comment on treating “Biharis” as “pariahs”.
Nitish Kumar yesterday said the Centre and Assam governments must not place the matter under carpet under any political compulsions.
The Opposition leader, Rabri Devi, urged the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter. She also appealed to Nitish Kumar to create more job opportunities for Bihar youths to help stop migration.
The Assam killings took place at Gola Ghat where gunmen shot businessmen Tarkeshwar Sahu, Deepak Agrawal, Srinath Agrawal and an unidentified person dead.
Also, Ulfa terror kingpin Jiten Datta has made open threats to all those who had protested against an Ulfa rally held a few days ago.
