Jamshedpur, Aug. 28: East Singhbhum district administration has directed the officials to complete the survey of plots under schedules I, II and III of land under the first three schedules of the land lease agreement between the government and Tata Steel.

Deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal said he has instructed survey officials to complete the work as soon as possible.

“Hopefully, the survey will be complete in the next 20 days and the officials will give a comprehensive report on the findings,” Burnwal said.

Tata Steel had applied for renewal of the land lease agreement way back in 1995.

While the erstwhile Bihar government did not respond to the application the present government was still working on it.

The government has decided to renew the first three schedules of the land lease agreement, which involve the land that was leased to the company for production, civic amenities and housing.

However, the government is yet to give its nod on the renewal of the other two schedules — IV and V.

It claimed that the steel major had violated the rules of the agreement pertaining to schedule IV and has decided to penalise the steel major.

However, according to Tata Steel, it has not violated rules. Both the parties are at loggerheads on the issue.

“The survey is necessary since in many of the plots under these three schedules the nature of the land has changed after the last survey, done in 1993. We have to identify and note the changes that have taken place and give new plot numbers,” Burnwal said. He added that based on the findings of the survey, a map would be charted for the three schedules.

The deputy commissioner said he has intimated Tata Steel that it would be “illegal” at present on part of the company to undertake any expansion programme involving any portion of the land under the leased area of the city.
