Bengal police seized 32 trucks of smuggled coal in Asansol area being transported from different parts of Dhanbad including Mugma, Nirsa, Govindpur and others..
Cops also nabbed the drivers and cleaners of trucks and finding out the details of operators of coal smuggling racket operating from Dhanbad.
Talking to the media, Abhishek Modi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Asansol Durgapur) said, “We are strict against illegal mining and illegal coal transportation and have seized altogether 32 coal laden trucks during the last two day."
He further said that illegally mined coal is being transported from various parts of the Dhanbad including Mugma, Nirsa, Govindpur to different parts of Asansol Durgapur.
“When we asked for valid papers from the drivers and other persons travelling in the truck they failed to produce the valid papers and are being questioned,“ said Modi.
In a related developed a 12-year-old girl, Khusbu Kumari, a resident of Lakarka area of Katras was seriously injured due to roof fall during illegal mining Kanta Pahari patch of West Modidih Colliery under Katras Police station of Dhanbad this afternoon.
The injured man has been admitted to a private nursing home in Dhanbad by his family members. Though the police has denied any incident, Giridih MP, Chandra Prakash Chaudhary claimed that six people have been trapped below the debris at the incident site. He claimed that he would himself visit the site tomorrow and find out the details.
Local residents said that more than 50 people were engaged in illegal coal mining at the site when a huge coal boulder fell down due to which six people were trapped but the girl was somehow rescued by the family members and other persons working at the site.
Notably, Chandra Prakash Choudhary is quite vocal on the issue of illegal coal mining and smuggling and has recently carried out raids at a hard coke factory of Bokaro, Nishad Hard Coke factory and lodged a case against the owner of hard coke factory, Pan Babu Kevat. The mining department team led by District Mining officer, Gopal Das which reached at Bokaro after the raid of Chaudhary also seized around 140 tonne coal from the factory.
