Giridih, Feb. 6: A statue of scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose has been waiting to be unveiled since 1999.
In an article published in The Times, London, it was written that “Bose’s findings are an example of fertile union between the immemorial mysticism of Indian philosophy and the experimental methods of western science”.
But Giridih, where Bose breathed his last life, few care to remember his contributions to science. Sir J.C. Bose Memorial Science Centre — the building that houses the legacy of the scientist — is crying for attention. Previously named Shanti Niwas, where Bose died in 1934, it is in a state of disrepair. The marble statue is located in the heart of the town, before the Sir J.C. Bose Science Center and Sir J.C. Bose Girls’ High School.
Ritesh Sarak, secretary of Abhilasha Research Foundation, an NGO said: “The science and technology minister Samresh Singh had shown a great deal of interest when the statue was installed. But now he too has lost interest.” Deputy commissioner Manikant Azad told The Telegraph said: “I was not aware of this problem. But now I will discuss the matter with the chief minister and request him to unveil the statue of Bose immediately.”
