Ranchi, July 19: Ranchi University has finally received funds to pay salaries to its employees after four long months.

In what is another bit of good news for the employees, the university has notified the long-awaited pay fixation of its grade-three employees.

The employees had been getting 75 per cent of their salary for a few years as their pay-scales were not fixed.

However, it will take a little more time before the money can be taken home.

“Although we have received the money from the government, it will take a while before the money is released. This is because we have a large number of people to handle. We have to pay the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university and various government colleges. It is therefore not easy to specify the date by which the employees will get their dues,” said university registrar L.N. Bhagat.

The employees are sceptical about the notification. “We are yet to know the details. It will only help us if we get more than what we were getting. We used to get 75 per cent of the salary we were entitled to because our scales had not been fixed. Now that they have been fixed, we do not now who has been allotted what scale and on what basis,” said Mahesh Kumar, a university clerk.

Reports say the pay fixation notification might not be acceptable to all the grade-three employees.

“We suspect that employees might not accept the notification. Wages of many of the grade-three employees might actually get reduced after the pay scale is implemented. This is because the scales have now fixed according to the qualifications and work-experience. The scales fixed earlier were erratic,” said a senior official of Ranchi University.

The details of the notification will be made public to the employees tomorrow. “It’s yet to be seen whether the employees will accept the salary mentioned,” said Ajit Sahay, co-ordinator of College Development Committee.
