The actress-turned-politician told a rally on Wednesday that “whoever enters the Telangana region (for campaigning) will be axed”.
The actress, served a non-bailable warrant at noon, got bail in the evening. After her release, Vijayashanti said: “It is the victory of the party, which fought for my release.”
Vijayashanti was on her way to her parliamentary constituency, Karimnagar, in Medak district, when she was arrested.
On Friday, the Telangana party workers fought pitched street battles with the police who attempted to enter her legislators’ colony house and tried to arrest her.
On Saturday, when Vijayshanti’s convoy was in Banjara Hills, the police stopped it, according to a PTI report. After a heated exchange of words with the MP and her supporters, the police pulled out Vijayashanti’s driver. One of the policemen then drove the car to Nampally court.
Responding to the police’s behaviour, the actress said: “I have not committed any mistake and I am not a criminal.”
Vijayashanti’s comments on Wednesday attracted the attention of the Election Commission that registered a suo motu complaint against her. The Banjara Hills police registered the case the next day. The Election Commission has given the MP time till July 4 to clarify her remarks.
Bypolls to 12 Assembly seats in Telangana will be held on July 27.
