Schoolgirl punished
• Hyderabad, Sept. 11 (PTI): An 11-year-old girl was made to stand in the boys' washroom at a Hyderabad school on Saturday as "punishment" for not wearing the uniform, her father has alleged.
Telangana IT minister K.T. Rama Rao has said he would take the matter up with education minister Kadiyam Srihari. The state government has ordered an inquiry and asked the district education officer for a report.
The girl's father has alleged that a teacher asked the girl why she hadn't worn the uniform. When the girl said her parents had written a note in her diary requesting she be allowed to attend school without her uniform for one day, the teacher still punished her, the father has said.
The teacher has denied the allegations.
J&K landslide
• Jammu (PTI): The traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was suspended on Monday evening after a landslide blocked the road and damaged a bridge in Udhampur district, officials said. The highway is expected to be made traffic worthy by Tuesday evening, a spokesperson of the traffic department said.
Actor visit
• Chennai (PTI): Tamil actor Vijay on Monday met the family of 17-year-old Anitha, who allegedly committed suicide over National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) recently. Vijay reportedly offered a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the bereaved family.
Bharat Yatra
• Kanyakumari (PTI): Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi on Monday set on a march across the country to mobilise action against sexual abuse and trafficking of children. Starting from Kanyakumari and passing through Kashmir, the Bharat Yatra will culminate in Delhi on October 16.
Bear attack
• Korba (PTI): Wild bears mauled to death four persons and injured a man in two separate incidents in Chhattisgarh, an official said on Monday. The kin of all the deceased persons were given an instant relief amount of Rs 25,000 each, the official said.
