Mumbai, Nov. 14 (PTI): A sessions court today stayed till December 1 a lower court’s order issuing a non-bailable warrant against actor Rahul Roy in a case of cheque bouncing and alleged human trafficking.
The allegations of human trafficking against the actor come even as a case is on against pop star Daler Mehndi on similar charges.
Sessions judge Hemant Deshpande granted Roy time till December 1.
An Andheri court had issued the warrant in a case registered in 1998 by Fardeen Shaikh, an aspirant for a job in the UK.
Shaikh had lodged a complaint that he had paid Roy Rs 3.40 lakh to help him go abroad. He alleged that the actor took him to the UK mission and got him a visa valid for two years saying he was his employee. The visa was issued on condition that Roy accompany Shaikh to the UK.
After six months, Roy asked Shaikh to take back the money as he could not accompany him. The actor issued a cheque for Rs 3.40 lakh that bounced.
