Mumbai: Nirav Modi rubbed shoulders with the world's who's who - from having Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Dakota Johnson as his clients to actress Priyanka Chopra being the brand ambassador of his jewellery line to being photographed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Economic Forum summit in Davos last month.
Now Priyanka, who also dropped by to say hello to the Prime Minister during his visit to Germany in May last year and tweeted a photograph of the Berlin meeting, is understood to be exploring legal options after the bank fraud linked to Nirav Modi came to light.
"There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi (for non-payment of dues). This is not true," a spokesperson for Priyanka, who spends most of her time in the US, said.
"However, she is currently seeking legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi. We are waiting for the official statement that Priyanka Chopra has yet to issue."
Priyanka had been photographed by French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier for a Nirav Modi jewellery line advertising campaign last year along with British actress and supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
The campaign pitched the Nirav Modi line as a brand that "echoes the essence of a woman and brings out her strength and beauty".
Priyanka dazzled in a sparkling "Emerald Waterfall Necklace" as part of the campaign.
One of the ads also featured actor Sidharth Malhotra and had a Nirav Modi original Sparkler ring as its focus.
While unveiling the campaign, Nirav Modi had said it featured Priyanka and Rosie in black-and-white, adorned with jewellery in colour, and was meant to show the "coming together of classic and contemporary".
A source close to Sidharth confirmed that the actor's contract with the Nirav Modi brand had expired a long time ago and reports about him wanting to exit the deal in the light of the bank fraud were untrue.
Another Bollywood actress, Lisa Haydon, who was among the first celebrities to endorse Nirav Modi's jewellery brand along with The Lunchbox and Homeland star Nimrat Kaur, however, had no problems regarding payment.
