Islamabad, Feb. 9: Hundreds held a protest rally in Muzaffarabad today to condemn the execution of Afzal Guru even as the government of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir announced a three-day state mourning.

More than 400 protesters assembled under the banner of Pasban-e-Hurriyat, an organisation representing Kashmiris who migrated from Indian Kashmir.

They burnt Indian flags and condemned the hanging under what they called black and draconian laws.

“Down with India, India’s friends are traitors, we will continue the mission of Afzal Guru,” they chanted as they marched on the streets of Muzaffarabad.

Guru was found guilty of conspiring with and sheltering the Jaish-e-Mohammad militants who had attacked the Indian Parliament in December 2001.

Pasban-e-Hurriyat leader Uzair Ghazali urged the Pakistani government to hang Sarabjit Singh, an Indian on death row in Pakistan. He was convicted in 1990 on charges of espionage and a role in five bombings in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
