Jamshedpur, June 15: New Seraikela Kharsawan deputy commissioner Chhavi Ranjan and superintendent of police Chandan Kumar Sinha, who took charge today, have their task cut out as the district, that has seen four DCs and three SPs in six months, has already earned itself a transfer-prone tag among bureaucrats.
Both got to work immediately and held a series of meetings with officials to chalk out priorities. "The government's priorities are my priorities and I will try to ensure that schemes reach beneficiaries," said Ranjan, a 2011 IAS officer who was earlier director of social welfare.
"I promise to put in all effort for the benefit of the residents of the district. Anyone can contact me personally or through phone to air their grievances anytime," added the officer who has close ties with the steel city - Ranjan went to St Mary's Hindi High School in Jamshedpur and his first posting was SDO of Chakradharpur in neighbouring West Singhbhum district.
A two-member probe team comprising Kolhan commissioner Pradeep Kumar and former Kolhan DIG Prabhat Kumar had cited lack of communication and coordination between the former Seraikela-Kharsawan DC (Ramesh Gorakh Gholap) and SP (Rakesh Bansal) while looking into the circumstances that led to the May 18 lynching of four cattle traders at Rajnagar block.

Ranjan has had his share of controversies too. He was pulled up for stacking trees, allegedly felled from local forests, at his government residence while serving as DC of Koderma in 2015.
SP Chandan Kumar Sinha, who was promoted to IPS cadre last year, is on his first posting to the district. He was earlier SP in charge of the chief minister's security.
"My immediate priority is to make police officials accessible to people. I stressed during today's meeting that the perception of people towards police should change for the better. Cops should change the way they deal with people at thanas and in public," he said.
Sinha said that improving the law and order situation and ensuring quick response in times of crisis would be his priority. For that, he promised to improve beat policing in Adityapur and Gamharia industrial areas.
This year, three DCs have so far served Seraikela-Kharsawan, namely, K. Srinivasan, Ramesh Gorakh Gholap and Akansha Ranjan. Two SPs, Sanjiv Kumar and Rakesh Bansal, were also transferred.
While Srinivasan and Sanjiv Kumar were transferred after the controversy over a black flag demonstration during the chief minister's visit to Kharsawan in January, Ramesh Gorakh Gholap and Rakesh Bansal were suspended after mob attacks killed four cattle traders.
Akansha Ranjan, who is deputy development commissioner of the district, assumed charge as DC for over a week after Gholap's exit.
