Lucknow, Oct. 24 (PTI): A sharpshooter of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was today shot dead in an encounter with police while he was trying to escape from their custody.
Noor Baksh alias Noora, who was lodged in Naini Central Jail in Allahabad, was brought here for a hearing. As soon as he was taken out from a jail, a number of motorcycle-borne youths tried to help Noora escape.
Jammu (PTI): The district administration in Doda has imposed a ban on the sale, purchase and storage of all kinds of combat dresses and cloth and their tailoring. District magistrate Sourabh Bhagat has declared the ban throughout his jurisdiction.
New Delhi (PTI): The government said on Wednesday it has received over Rs 167 lakh as licence fee from private FM radio broadcasters during September 2007. The total number of FM radio channels has increased to 120 in the same period.
Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Six persons, including a 14-year-old boy, were remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday on charges of running a sex racket under the cover of a private home for destitutes at Kadhinamkulam near here. Police said they have written to the government to cancel the home’s licence.
Nagpur (PTI): A students’ union leader has been arrested for allegedly running a job racket in the city, police have said. Virendra Singh Khaiwar allegedly duped many unemployed youngsters by promising them easy jobs. He would charge Rs 60,000 from candidates and give them fake appointment letters.
Jammu (PTI): A truck driver was arrested while smuggling timber in Doda district, officials said on Wednesday. Police intercepted the vehicle carrying 40 fine- quality Deodar timber sleepers at a check post. The timber is worth over Rs 40 lakh.
