Ghandy custody

New Delhi, Oct. 15 (PTI): A Delhi court today remanded alleged Maoist leader Khobad Ghandy in 14 days’ judicial custody.

The court also heard the bail application filed on behalf of Ghandy, 59, and posted it for the next hearing on October 20.

‘Killer’ wife

Erode (PTI): A woman killed her husband by setting him on fire, police said. Palanisamy, 50, used to drink and beat up Senniammal. Last Saturday, Senniammal poured kerosene on her husband and set him ablaze after a quarrel. She then dumped the body in a garbage bin and covered it with mud. But she later confessed to the panchayat pradhan out of fear, the police said.

Baba cops

Morena (PTI): Two policemen have been suspended for allowing a self-styled godman to immolate himself in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Wednesday. Station house officer Ravi Bhadoriya and sub-divisional officer of police M.P. Sharma were seen sitting with their hands folded and heads bowed in front of the baba, who set himself on fire, saying he was taking “samadhi” for the welfare of the people.

Sweet cuffs

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): Two persons were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Wednesday for attacking a police team that had gone to raid their sweets factory. They had also snatched the adulterated mawa recovered from their factory.

Cracker blast

Firozabad (PTI): One man was killed and a 12-year-old girl injured in an explosion at a cracker factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Shikohabad city on Wednesday. The crackers accidentally caught fire and exploded when Abdul and Shayana were preparing them.

Police thief

Dehra Dun (PTI): A police constable was arrested on Wednesday for stealing a cellphone. Mohit Kumar had picked up the handset left on a table of a college canteen by student Nidhi Chowdhary, who had gone to pay the bill.
