Bombs found

New Delhi, June 7 (PTI): The National Investigation Agency today found 18 live bombs in Ranchi after a tip-off from two persons detained in connection with the multiple blasts at a Patna rally addressed by Narendra Modi last year.

The two, identified as Ifthekar and Feroz Aslam, were arrested last night. At least seven persons were killed and others injured when bombs exploded at a railway platform and at the Modi rally.

Mango haul

Kanchipuram (PTI): Over 1,000kg of artificially ripened mangoes worth around Rs 35,000 have been seized by health department officials from vendors in Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram. The vendors usually use calcium carbide to hasten the ripening of mangoes. The use of the chemical has been banned.

Techie raped

Bangalore (PTI): A woman IT professional from Jharkhand was allegedly raped at her paying guest accommodation in Bangalore on Thursday night. Police said the suspect might have kept a close watch on the PG as he had entered her room after her roommate had left for work.

Cop theft

New Delhi (PTI): Cash and jewellery worth around Rs 35 lakh have been stolen from the Delhi home of a deputy director of the Intelligence Bureau posted in Manipur, police said. The theft took place when the family of Bengal-cadre IPS officer Rajesh Subarno was visiting him in Imphal.

Metro service

Mumbai (PTI): Mumbai Metro will start commercial operations from Sunday, after a delay of three years. Services will start on the 11.4km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar stretch and trains will be available every four minutes, an official said.

Sampath tax

New Delhi (PTI): The income tax department has issued a notice to chief election commissioner V.S. Sampath on the sale of a property in Hyderabad in 2011 and purchase of a home in Delhi with that money, sources said. It was “not a tax evasion” case, the sources clarified.
