UP clash panel

Lucknow, July 31 (PTI): The Uttar Pradesh government today formed a committee to probe the violent clash in Saharanpur last week in which three persons died.

The panel, headed by PWD minister Shivpal Yadav, will visit Saharanpur and after going through all aspects will submit its report to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury. Curfew was relaxed in the violence-hit district for 6 hours today.

CM bungalows

New Delhi (PTI): The chief ministers of Maharashtra, Himachal and Uttarakhand — Prithviraj Chavan, Virbhadra Singh and Harish Rawat — are occupying government bungalows in Delhi under state quota, Parliament has been informed.

Kodnani relief

Ahmedabad (PTI): Gujarat High Court has dismissed a plea by the Supreme Court-appointed SIT to stay the bail granted to Maya Kodnani, jailed in a 2002 riot case. The court said the SIT’s plea had come after the order had been executed. Kodnani was granted the bail on Wednesday on health grounds.

Coal FIR

New Delhi (PTI): The CBI has filed a fresh FIR against a Madhya Pradesh-based company in connection with its probe into the coal-block allocation case. This is the 23rd FIR registered by the agency in the probe.

Highway row

New Delhi (PTI): Road projects worth over Rs 26,000 crore are stuck in disputes between developers and highway regulator NHAI, the government has said. Junior minister Krishanpal Gurjar said the NHAI had taken a slew of measures for fast-tracking projects, including streamlining of land acquisitions .

Leopard

Vadodara (PTI): A leopard died of electric shock after it apparently jumped on a transformer while in pursuit of a prey in Amreli district, a forest official said on Thursday. The feline’s carcass was brought down after the power supply was disconnected.

Navy leak case

New Delhi, July 31 (PTI): Eight years after the CBI filed the chargesheet in a case relating to leakage of information from the naval war room, a court today framed charges against former defence officials.

A CBI spokesperson said those charged under the Official Secrets Act include Ravi Shankaran, a kin of former navy chief Admiral Arun Prakash, Abhishek Varma and former naval commander Kulbushan Rana.

Cop trial

Mumbai: A Mumbai sessions court has extended till August 5 the interim protection against arrest granted to senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, accused of molestation and rape by a 26-year-old model. Paraskar’s lawyer sought more time from the court to file an affidavit.

Blood tears

Kota (PTI): A 22-year-old woman in Rajasthan’s Kota is suffering from a rare disease which leads to shedding of “blood tears” from her eyes. Lakshaya Bais is said to be the third patient traced so far with the disease, doctors treating her at the government hospital have said.

Alimony order

New Delhi (PTI): A sessions court has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on a man while dismissing his appeal against a magisterial court order which had directed him to pay Rs 25,000 maintenance per month to his estranged wife and son.

Migrant deal

Melbourne (PTI): Australia was working with India for the return of Tamil migrants among 157 asylum seekers who are being held at a detention centre in the country, immigration minister Scott Morrison has said. The group, including at least 37 children, are held is said to be from Puducherry.

Ear assault

Patna (PTI): Two brothers have allegedly chopped off an ear of a retired army personnel following an altercation over his flowing moustache in Patna district. The two were drinking with Ramanuj Verma and started teasing him over his moustache. Soon, a brawl followed. The two are on the run.
