New Delhi, Sept. 30: The Supreme Court today handed life imprisonment to Pakistani terrorist Ghulam Nabi Guide for causing the death of eight persons in the 1995 serial blasts during Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar.
The 76-year-old with a flowing white beard was produced by the CBI before a special bench of the apex court amid tight security.
Nabi was convicted under Sections 3 and 4 of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Tada) Act, 1987, Section 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code and Section 120B of the IPC.
A bench of Justices A.K. Sikri and U.U. Lalit, however, did not entertain CBI counsel P.K. Dey's plea that the convict should be awarded three life sentences consecutively instead of concurrently on the grounds that he had been convicted for three offences.
"How many lives does he have? Three? He has only one life," Justice Sikri, heading the bench, said.
