India on China's 'dance'
• NEW DELHI: India on Friday saw China's "let's dance, not fight" formulation for bilateral relations as part of the post-Doklam recalibration of ties. Asked about Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi's statement on Thursday that the dragon and the elephant must dance, external affairs ministry spokesperson Ravish Kumar said: "We are willing to work with the Chinese side to develop our relations based on commonalities, while dealing with differences on the basis of mutual respect and sensitivity to each other's interests, concerns and aspirations."
Woman set ablaze
• BALLIA: A Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh was injured after she was set ablaze by some people allegedly to realise a loan, police said, adding two men had been arrested. The incident happened on Thursday when Reshma Devi, 45, was sleeping in her house and some people doused her in kerosene and set her on fire. PTI
Sufi singer dies
• AMRITSAR: Pyare Lal Wadali, the one half of famous Punjabi Sufi singing duo Wadali Brothers, died of a heart attack on Friday at a hospital here, family members said. He was 75. Pyare Lal and his elder brother Puran Chand Wadali sang popular songs such as Tu maane yaa na maane and Tanu Weds Manu's Rangrez mere. PTI
Gold smuggling
• CHENNAI: Revenue officials here have seized 23kg of gold worth Rs 7 crore, allegedly being smuggled into India from Sri Lanka by four persons in specially designed waist pouches. The officials intercepted the passengers when they arrived at Egmore Railway station by the Rameswaram-Chennai Sethu Express here on Thursday. PTI

Web glare on 'fake' madarsas
• LUCKNOW: Fake madarsas allegedly costing the state exchequer over Rs 100 crore per year have been detected by the Uttar Pradesh government during its drive to register minority institutions online. "Online registration of madarsas was started in the state in a bid to bring in transparency in their functioning. But even after increasing the deadline for the same a number of times, 20 mini ITIs (run by madarsas) out of a total of 140 ITIs failed to register themselves. Over 2,000 madarsas in the state also failed to join the government's online registration drive," minority welfare minister Lakshmi Chowdhury said. PTI

• HYDERABAD: Two girls studying in Class XII allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a high-rise residential apartment here, police said on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday night at LB Nagar. A suicide note, allegedly written by one of the girls, was found at her home, cops added. PTI
App for women
• JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir governor N.N. Vohra's wife, Usha Vohra, launched a mobile application aimed at ensuring the safety and security of women in the state. At a programme organised by police here on Thursday, she launched the Jammu and Kashmir police's Women Safety App and felicitated the wives of policemen who died in the line of duty, and women cops as well. Drug racket
• JAMMU: Two peddlers allegedly involved in an inter-district drug racket were arrested in Kishtwar district, police said on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid in Kuleed area. "Around 940 TopSpas tablets were recovered," the official said. PTI
