Jodhpur/Delhi, July 9: The air force has sacked an officer after its investigators found evidence that he had an extra-marital affair with a senior’s wife. The woman, from Calcutta and a squadron leader herself, committed suicide in her quarters in Jodhpur last November after an altercation with her husband.

“The flight lieutenant was sacked after the court of inquiry submitted its report and the chief of air staff recommended his dismissal,” a defence ministry spokesperson said in Jodhpur.

The former flight lieutenant, also married, served in the same squadron of Sukhoi 30Mki fighter jets as the woman’s husband, a squadron leader.

The police and the court of inquiry found that the woman and her husband had quarrelled after he found her “chats” with the junior officer on a social networking website.

The flight lieutenant was found guilty on charges under a provision of the IAF Act that mandates punishment for “stealing the affections of a brother officer’s wife”.

The woman was assigned to an administrative role in the frontline Air Force Station, Jodhpur.

Based on evidence collected by the court of inquiry, the South Western Air Command had forwarded its recommendations to air headquarters in Delhi.

According to the evidence the 29-year-old woman and her husband, also a squadron leader and a fighter pilot, had an argument on the evening of November 27. She walked out of the room.

Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in another room by her husband around 3am. The woman was commissioned into the service in 2006 and married in 2008.
