Calcutta, April 21:
Goons abducted Pranab Pal, an employee of a cotton mill, from Jamunalal Bajaj Street in the Hare Street police station area on Saturday evening and made off with Rs 2.55 lakh. They released him only after beating him up with the butt of a chopper.
Pal was on his way to his office with the cash, when four men dragged him into a Maruti van. He told the police that they tried to stab him in his stomach.
He said he was thrown out of the car in the middle of the second Hooghly bridge. Police, however, interrogated Pal as they found a number of discrepancies in his statement.
