Fortis death case FIR

• GURGAON: An FIR was lodged against the Fortis hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday in connection with the death of a seven-year-old dengue patient, the Haryana government said. Civil and criminal action was being initiated against the hospital, which was indicted for lapses by a probe panel in its report pertaining to the death of the girl, an official spokesperson said. "The health department has directed the civil surgeon, Gurgaon, to provide one copy each of the report to the parents of the child and the hospital, and one copy to the police with instructions to initiate criminal inquiry against the hospital," the spokesperson added. Crash cash

• NEW DELHI: A motor accident claims tribunal here has awarded Rs 92.36 lakh compensation to the family members of a 46-year- old woman, who died in a road accident after being hit by a car driven rashly in 2015. PTI

Gold seizure

• AMRITSAR: Fifteen kilograms of gold worth Rs 4.5 crore has been seized from an Air India flight, which arrived from Dubai at Amritsar airport, officials said. Two passengers have been detained. The gold was concealed under a passenger seat cushion inside the plane and recovered during a joint operation by the customs and the directorate of revenue intelligence on a tip-off on Saturday. PTI

Illegal structure

• NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court has sought response of the Delhi Development Authority and civic bodies here on a PIL for removal of illegal religious structures existing near metro stations. The court directed the agencies to place their status report before April 10, the next date of hearing. PTI

Infant 'raped'

• THANE: A one-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified person in Thane, police said on Sunday. The infant was spotted by an auto driver who rushed her to a police station. She is being treated in a hospital. PTI

Leopard shot dead

• NASHIK: A leopard, which had killed seven persons, including children and a woman, in the past one month here, has been shot dead, an official said on Sunday. PTI

Elephant chaos kills mahout

• GURUVAYUR: A mahout succumbed to the injuries he suffered after being attacked by an elephant, which ran amok along with two others at the Sri Krishna temple in Kerala's Guruvayur on Sunday morning. The incident took place around 7am when the elephants had been lined up at the temple for the procession, with one of the tuskers carrying the idol of Lord Krishna, police said. Temple sources said the idol had been removed from the elephant when the incident took place. The animals were later brought under control. PTI

Extradition plea

• NEW DELHI: A 73-year-old British national, wanted in a child abuse and trafficking case in the Philippines, has moved Delhi High Court challenging the proceedings in a trial court to extradite him to that country. The court has sought the response of the Centre on the plea of Lennox James Ellis, who was arrested from Goa on June 9, 2016. Ellis has been lodged in Tihar Jail since July 11 last year. PTI

Apollo Pharmacy

• NEW DELHI: The CBI has booked Apollo Pharmacy, a unit of Apollo Hospitals, in a case of cheating and corruption. The agency, in a recent FIR, has named B.R. Raghu, pharmacist at BEL Hospital, Bangalore, and Apollo Pharmacy. The agency did not disclose the alleged crime PTI

Unique numbers for toilets

• NEW DELHI: Public and community toilets in urban areas will be allotted unique identification numbers that will be displayed at their entrances, an initiative aimed at their better upkeep under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, according to an official document. Information such as the name of the local body under whose jurisdiction the toilet falls, details of the maintenance authority, the name and contact number of the supervisor and the grievance redress mechanism will be provided, it said. Father appeal

• PHAGWARA: The family of a Meghalaya student who was killed in Punjab's Phagwara on Thursday night have demanded the transfer of the case to their home state so that they can pursue it and bring the culprits to book. Shivbi Prasad, Ashish's father who runs a crockery shop in Tura, said he made the plea so that he could fight the case in court. PTI

Four drown in canal

• COIMBATORE: Four persons drowned when their car nosedived into a canal attached to the Parambikulam Aliyar Project in Coimbatore on Sunday. Five persons from Ernakulam in Kerala were returning home from Munnar when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into the 11ft-deep canal, police said. PTI

Goa CM cycle ride

• PANAJI: Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday rode a bicycle here as part of an event to spread the message of environment protection. Parrikar took the ride after inaugurating the event NoMoZo (No Motor Zone). The chief minister said he would love to use cycles often, but was restrained because of security reasons. PTI

Bhopal film festival

• BHOPAL: The third edition of the Khajuraho International Film Festival here will begin on December 17. The festival will be dedicated to the deceased actors Shashi Kapoor, Om Puri and Tom Alter, an official said. PTI

ATM cash stolen

• COIMBATORE: An ATM of an IndusInd Bank here on Sunday was found broken and about Rs 3 lakh in cash stolen. A truck driver who visited the ATM alerted police and bank officials. PTI
