Mumbai, Feb. 21: The 2G controversy has not just spoilt the mood in boardrooms, it has crashed the party, too.

Several top industrialists skipped a wedding that brought together the Biyani and Dhoot families in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

As Pantaloon fame Kishore Biyani’s nephew wed the daughter of Videocon boss Venugopal Dhoot, the celeb checklist was largely ticked by Bollywood while corporate India registered a muted presence.

“It is well known in Mumbai’s social circles that 11 industrialists are to be questioned by the CBI in the 2G case. Dhoot is one of those shortlisted to be questioned. Right now, none of the other bosses of India Inc want to be seen in the vicinity,” a Mumbai socialite and daughter of a top industrialist told The Telegraph.

Dhoot, whose Videocon group was one of the companies that was allocated spectrum in 2008, was questioned by the investigating agency in New Delhi today for six hours. His brother and Rajya Sabha MP Rajkumar Dhoot was also quizzed.

The CBI has so far questioned industrialists such as Anil Ambani of Reliance Infocomm, Prashant Ruia of Essar and Sanjay Chandra of Unitech.

While being questioned does not imply any guilt, industrialists have been wary of being seen to be too close to those under the scanner.

Mukesh and Nita Ambani, who had attended pre-wedding events of Vivek Biyani and Tanushree, were marked by their absence yesterday. “They could not attend as they were hosting a dinner for trustees of Southern California University in their new home,” said an Ambani family source.

He added that Ambani also had to fly to London early on Monday morning to announce the tie-up with British Petroleum.

Others like Lakshmi Mittal who attended other Dhoot weddings were not seen. Close friend Naresh Goyal was also absent.

The token presence from India Inc was made of Harsh Goenka and a few industrialists related to the Biyanis and Dhoots by marriage.

Among politicians who could not be spotted was Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, a close friend of the Dhoots. Praful Patel of the NCP and Gopinath Munde of the BJP did turn up.

Shah Rukh Khan, who had regaled guests for the sangeet ceremony on Friday with a dance that usually costs the host Rs 1.5 crore, attended the wedding with wife Gauri.
