In a pioneering collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has joined forces with the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), Chennai to introduce a transformative MD-PhD Dual Degree programme.
The distinguished institutions aim to focus on core clinical, interdisciplinary, and translational research through this programme. Their objective is to address the growing demand for ‘Physician-Scientists’ who possess both medical expertise and technological acumen.
The session is scheduled to commence from the next academic year. It will focus on producing well-trained research scientists to lead India’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in medicine and health.
Eligibility criteria
Postgraduates admitted to SRIHER through NEET can apply for the PhD programme at IIT Madras after the second year.

- Candidates admitted to the PhD programme will receive joint guidance from faculty members at IIT Madras and SRIHER, Chennai.
- The programme structure allows candidates to continue their research as part-time students at IIT Madras and Senior Residents at SRIHER until completing the PhD programme.
