JIYO RE, BAHUBALI...

During the last quarter, I visited the multiplexes more than 10 times and it was mostly for Bahubali: The Conclusion (Bahubali 2). This was one film I never got bored of even after watching it many times, starting from the first day-first show. Be it story, direction, cinematography, music, sets or special effects, this film stood out in every aspect. Prabhas and Anushka Shetty have earned the best jodi title, as they were brilliant. Ramya Krishnan and Rana Daggubati also deserve applause. (Which was the best/worst film you watched between April-June... July 12)
Shatadipa Bhattacharya
Honestly, I am always saved from watching disastrous films as I swear by the reviews in t2. Bahubali 2 certainly surpassed my expectations. Keeping aside logic, the movie is technically brilliant and visually stunning. Also, A Death in the Gunj blew me away. The film touched all the right chords and was a great directorial debut from our very own Konkona Sensharma. The camerawork is astounding and kudos for the attention to detail. The performances are incredible. Thanks for gifting us the underrated gem, Vikrant Massey. His role as the suppressed and vulnerable Shutu is one of the best performances this year so far.
Saurav Gupta, Narendrapur
The best film I watched between April and June is Bahubali 2. I really liked the first film, but I was confused whether to watch the second. But the t2 review resolved my confusion and my best friend and I went to watch it. I went to know the answer to the question, “Katappa ne Bahubali ko kyun maara?” but came out with an incredible cinematic experience. The love story between Bahubali (Prabhas) and Devasena (Anushka Shetty) was beautifully portrayed. Prabhas portrayed both Amarendra and Mahendra so well. And what a master storyteller Mr S.S. Rajamouli is. Loved it!
Rishika Dutta
Was there anything to watch other than Bahubali 2? Dhaansu performances by all, awesome visual effects and an exceptional cinematic experience. Among the worst films, I want to know why did Srijit Mukherji make a film like Begum Jaan as his debut Bolly film? And how did Aashiqui 2 man Mohit Suri agree to make the movie adaptation of a nonsensical book like Half Girlfriend?!
Sanjukta Chatterjee

The best films, according to me, were Mom and Bahubali 2. The drama and the editing in both the films were great. Prabhas’s acting was mindblowing. The amount of hard work that Sridevi put into Mom was fabulous.
Prajukta Sen, Loreto Day School
I believe that not only for me, but for the entire nation, the best summer movie ever was the unforgettable Bahubali 2. This super-cool movie made the super-hot summer worth living! As far as the worst film is concerned, I think I was on the safe side because I didn’t watch any of them. After all, I couldn’t have spent all my money in just one quarter of the year... yes, I watched Bahubali 2 thrice!
Dimple Periwal, St. Xavier’s College
After watching Bahubali 2 the first time, I was speechless. I watched it a zillion times on the computer after that, but it seemed so new every time. After the film, I have become a die-hard fan of Prabhas. Best film!
Pritikana Bhattacharyya
The best, obviously, has to be Bahubali 2. Everything in the film was mindboggling — VFX, music, war sequences, and especially Devasena. Even thinking about it now gives me the thrills.
Ausmita Mukherjee
Even after watching it several times in theatres and also at home, the Bahubali fever has just not gone down... not even a little bit! It’s just not possible for me to express in words what I felt after watching the film — a mixture of excitement, happiness, love and pride. A film of a lifetime that turned me into a hardcore fan of Prabhas overnight.
Sayantani Upadhyay
Between April and June, I watched only one Hindi movie... Bahubali 2. It was a fabulous film, nothing like anything I had ever watched. The story was beautifully presented and I was stunned by the visual effects. Also, Prabhas’s screen presence, dialogue delivery and body language were perfect. I was moved by Anushka Shetty’s acting and Prabhas and Anushka looked perfect together. My friend and I became sad when Katappa killed Amarendra Bahubali, but his son Mahendra Bahubali saved the show. I loved the movie from the core of my heart.
Tua Ghatak, Salt Lake
The best film was Bahubali 2, which had everything to make it a perfect film — action, romance, respect for women, dialogues, songs, background score.... The worst was Bank Chor... the characters were not funny and it really bored me.
Anisha Das
The best film I have ever watched, and not just between April and June, was Bahubali 2. This movie takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. The romance between Devasena and Amarendra has the flavour of the cult romance Titanic, while the performances of the other actors are also laudable. The movie is better than its prequel and Prabhas’s acting and looks make us go ‘Wow’. The experience of watching this film left me spellbound. And yes, Prabhas is the new hero of Indian cinema and the latest crush of all girls.
Joyita Basak
The best film would be Bahubali 2, hands down. After watching the Bahubali series, I am not a Bollywood fan anymore. The credit goes to S.S. Rajamouli for giving us the best Indian movie ever. I have become a hugeeeeeeeee fan of Prabhas. His physique, style, attitude, smile, eyes, height... OMG he is a dream man for every girl. *blush* There’s no Bahubali without him and he is so strong. *daydreaming* I also loved Prabhas with Anushka. These two have magical chemistry. Anushka was splendid as Devasena and looked gorgeous in the song Hamsa naava. I watched Bahubali nine times in the theatre so I didn’t get the time to watch any other movie. *Lol*
Moumita Kundu, Ultadanga
Between April and June, I watched many films, but the best was Bahubali 2. Awesome, awesome, awesome... what a movie! The sequel — wonderful love story, amazing cinematography and mind-blowing action scenes — was better than the first film.
Sourav Sarkar, South City College
Bahubali 2 is the best film of the quarter, if not of the year. What a movie! You know a film is hatke when, while watching it, you don’t eat your popcorn, you gobble it up, your eyes glued to the screen, and you gulp down your cola instead of sipping on it. This piece of work by Mr Rajamouli was art at its best. Technology to emotions to cinematography, it scored a century for me.

...AND THE REST
The best film I watched was Hindi Medium. It was an enjoyable film with a balance of seriousness and comedy. The worst film was undoubtedly Raabta. The only thing good in the film was Sushant Singh Rajput and his dialogues and yes, the soulful songs. This film was so bad that even the serious scenes made one laugh. Jim Sarbh was a disaster as the villain... and who believes in rebirth in the 21st century?!
Samriddhi Jain
I don’t know why an out-of-the-box film like A Death in the Gunj or a socially relevant watch like Maatr were flops. Maatr had a robust comeback performance from Raveena Tandon and Mom had Sridevi in a power-packed turn. The best films were Hindi Medium and Bahubali 2 and the worst was Raabta.
Anuvab Deb Sinha
I liked Hindi Medium the most. Don’t ask me about the worst movie because most are in love with it. I absolutely despised Bahubali 2. Something that defies science and logic and everything sane... naa, not for me.
Titas Choudhury, Vivekananda Mission School
This quarter had movies with great potential, but they didn’t live up to it. The worst movie, according to me, was Noor. I had expected to see Sonakshi Sinha in a different avatar, but the film was a waste, with Kanan Gill as the sole saving grace. Meri Pyaari Bindu and Maatr were good, but only okay as a one-time watch.
According to me, the best movie was Mom, a revenge drama with an actual plot. Also, there were amazing performances by Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna. I loved the premise, plot and performances and no one can forget Devaki’s chilling eyes filled with revenge.
Chayanika Hazra
A Death in the Gunj was an absolute gem of a film. Konkona Sensharma captures a gnawing sense of fear throughout the film, which reaches a crescendo as it culminates in a spine-chilling climax. An eerie atmosphere surrounds the film, from the cinematography that evokes a sense of melancholy or the background score that captures the tussle of emotions. The stellar performances are a plus.
Rupanjali Samadder, Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College
Hindi Medium is probably the best movie I’ve seen in many years. What charmed me was the plot that throws light on the corruption that exists in today’s education system. The brilliant acting by Irrfan Khan, Saba Qamar and the supporting cast was worthy of applause and the comedy scenes were delightful. The climax is the most laudable as it shows that truth always wins, no matter what. A huge thumbs up for this film!
Sweta Gupta
One of the best was Konkona Sensharma’s A Death in the Gunj, a brooding tale of family secrets tumbling out, a drama scripted like a thriller. The acting, the narration and the shattering climax were all brilliant. Konkona has taken after her illustrious mother, Aparna Sen, like the shocking climax, so cleverly used by her mother in most of her movies. As for the worst movies, thankfully, I did not watch them. I read the reviews first, courtesy t2.

You, the t2 reader, plan your must-watch film list for Q3
The film that will be on the top of my priority list is Lipstick Under My Burkha. The film has passed through so many stumbling blocks and has ultimately seen the light of day. I am sure the movie will break a lot of social stigmas and cultural taboos. My second pick is the film with a burning topic — Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I am quite excited to watch the chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. I also want to see if Madhur Bhandarkar can relive the magic of his films like Fashion in Indu Sarkar. Imtiaz Ali’s films are always very close to our hearts and I am gearing up to witness the crackling chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in Jab Harry Met Sejal. Haseena Parkar and Simran are also on my watch list for their edgy subjects. Wishing best of luck to all the movies listed by t2. (Which of these films is on your must-watch list? July 12)
Saurav Gupta, Narendrapur
Jab Harry Met Sejal is on my must-watch list. Anushka Sharma is looking stunning.
Suchandra Kundu, Lady Brabourne College
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I love Akshay Kumar’s acting. He does justice to any character he is given. Bhumi did a wonderful job in her first movie (Dum Laga Ke Haisha) and in the trailer, she is looking beautiful. I am expecting power-packed performances from these two. I loved the trailer and the concept is also interesting.
Rishika Dutta
After a disappointing start to the year with flops, I am eagerly waiting for some films that I hope will be as good as they are shown in their trailers. I am looking forward to Shah Rukh Khan’s intense energy in Jab Harry Met Sejal. And also the beard! * winks* In the song Radha, both Shah Rukh and Anushka are looking great... I am waiting for August 4! Then comes the film that looks mindblowing from the posters itself — Haseena Parkar. Shraddha Kapoor looks fantastic in an all-new look.
Prajukta Sen, Loreto Day School
I am going to watch Jab Harry Met Sejal because SRK is the coolest and my favourite actor and I have always loved and enjoyed Imtiaz Ali’s films. They have always made me stand and clap to my heart’s content. I hope that with naughty Anushka and hottie Shah Rukh, Imtiaz will create magic once more.
Pritikana Bhattacharyya
The list provided by t2 looks really attractive and a movie freak like me will find it very difficult to make a must-watch list because all the films listed seem ek se badhkar ek. But if I have to choose, then I will keep Jab Harry Met Sejal at the top because it has been made by some lovely people... Shah Rukh Khan — my favourite actor and a person I look up to, Imtiaz Ali — one of my favourite directors, Pritamda’s music is always close to my heart, and I am crushing on Anushka Sharma these days. All the mini-trailers of this film were so interesting and have increased our curiosity. And then there is the cute chemistry between SRK and Anushka.
I also have Lipstick Under My Burkha on my list because the trailer is lovely and the cast boasts some acting powerhouses. The third film on my list is Indu Sarkar because I love political thrillers and I am looking forward to some brilliant acting from Pink girl Kirti Kulhari. Finally, there is Arjun Rampal’s Daddy. I like Arjun as an actor and the film’s title is very intriguing.
Anuvab Deb Sinha
The film that is on my must-watch list is Judwaa 2. I’ve started counting days to its release date, September 29. Varun Dhawan is just going to rock it! Jab Harry Met Sejal is also on my must-watch list. I’m an SRK fan and the mini-trailers were just awesome. I think I’ll be the first one to book a ticket for the first day-first show on August 4. My other picks are Toilet and Haseena Parkar.
Ahana Bhattacharya
The third quarter of the year is going to be one big ride for Bollywood with different and engaging films. Being the Varunholic that I am, Judwaa 2 is the top-most priority when it comes to my watchlist for Q3. Lipstick Under My Burkha and Indu Sarkar look like promising films and so does Jab Harry Met Sejal. What surprised me is that despite the crackling trailer, Baadshaho didn’t receive a mention. The last time the trio of Milan Luthria, Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi had come together, the result was a wonderful film called Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai.
Mehul Agarwal
Although I do not watch many films, but out of this list I will definitely watch a few. First, I will watch Jab Harry Met Sejal and then Judwaa 2 because my favourite actors — Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan are in these films... OMG! I am soooo excited about these two.
Soumili Das
My must-watch film is Jab Harry Met Sejal. The actors in this film are my favourite and and the mini trailers are great too.
Anisha Das, South City College
It’s lovely that you have asked for our must-watch list. Well, for me they must be Toilet and Jab Harry Met Sejal because both their trailers are superb and I am looking forward to them very eagerly.
Debleena Das
The film on my must-watch list is Haseena Parkar. I like Shraddha Kapoor’s makeover in the film.
Ritwika Mukherjee, Methodist School
Well, I will pick Jab Harry Met Sejal because the cute and refreshing chemistry between SRK and Anushka is already a winner. This Imtiaz Ali film has everything to be a hit — powerhouse performer SRK, golden girl Anushka and Pritam’s music.
Joyita Basak
I am very excited to watch these films: Jab Harry Met Sejal, Toilet, Bhoomi and Judwaa 2.
Sourav Sarkar
Lipstick Under My Burkha is definitely on my must-watch list. I love how four women, who have rather different personalities, seem to be unified in a story that explores women’s inner desires... something that doesn’t make them unusual, but human. The film shows that it is high time we accepted the fact that women have a voice and a unique and powerful one at that. This film is incredibly relevant to present times.
Rupanjali Samadder, Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College
I am very excited about Jab Harry Met Sejal because of the amazing chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma and the groovy tracks Radha and Beech beech mein. Imtiaz Ali, please surprise us again!
Sreoshi Bakshi
The movie that I’m eagerly waiting for is Judwaa 2. The main reason is that that it stars my favourite actor and heart-throb, Varun Dhawan! Also, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu promise to make the film a fun watch.
Arundhati Das, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Salt Lake
You also picked Jagga Jasoos as a must-watch this quarter, but we have not included the film in this list because your Feedback about the film has already appeared in t2.
