Birthdays are always special and when it’s your first, there’s even more reason to celebrate! Bodega Cantina-Y-Bar’s one-year birthday treat is a specially curated menu consisting of small plates, mains and drinks. 

“Turning one is definitely a milestone. With this menu we’ve introduced completely new things, we’ve been bold but at the same time zeroed in on dishes and flavours that guests will like. The flavours are global and we’ve tried to highlight many techniques,” said Urvika Kanoi, chef-partner of Bodega. 

Here are our favourites from the fiesta menu.

Baja Fish Tacos: These tacos are a lovely marriage of textures and flavours. Rubbed with spices and coated with oats, the fish comes with a slightly sour cheese mix on top, that is juxtaposed with a ripe Alphonso mango and jalapeno salsa. A squeeze of lime and it’s ready to be popped. Rs 295
Spinach Cottage Cheese Medallions: Medallions of cottage cheese and fresh mozzarella are wrapped in spinach and served on a bed of fresh marinara sauce, topped with a spiced Parmesan tuile. Rs 325
Korean Beef Gyoza: Soft and juicy beef mince stuffed into paper-thin skin make up these succulent pot stickers, served with a sweet chilli dip. Rs 295
Fresh Burrata: Calcutta finally has a plate of this creamy, soft delight! This fresh cheese is complemented with Modena balsamic (Modena is a small city in Italy that produces superior quality balsamic) that comes in a small bottle, three-nut pesto and confit cherry tomatoes making this a dish that will make you ask for more. Rs 695
The Bodega Pickleback: A pickleback is a type of drink where a shot of whisky is chased by a shot of pickle brine, but at Bodega this tangy drink gets an upgrade. Instead of whisky, you down a shot of tequila and chase it with a shot of Leche de Tigre, that is Tiger’s Milk — a Peruvian concoction of lime juice, chillies and other spices. Not for the faint-hearted! Rs 395
Cumpleanos Coctel: Loosely translating to birthday drink, it’s a perfect sip for major celebrations. Choose from vodka or gin. The tropical, citrusy flavours with yuzu bitters, passion fruit cordial and a house-brewed jasmine green tea make this one a heady drink. We loved the dehydrated pineapple chips that are not just for decoration. Rs 395
