FOOD AND FRIENDS: It was a girls’ day out for Usha Uthup and her gang of friends at Camac Street restaurant Afra Tafri where the ladies launched the new lunch menu. On the menu at the 180-seater dine den were dishes like Awesome Threesome Burger, Makhan Singh Da Tiffin, Didi’s Dhakai Paratha, Paneer Tikka Tikdam Baaz.... “Usha Uthup is quintessentially Calcuttan and it was an honour to have her and her friends over for lunch. She loved the ambience and said she even wanted to perform here one day. I didn’t know that she was very much a foodie. Her favourites here were Chai Mousse, the Crazy Kali Dal and Bajra Flatbread Exotica,” said Raajiv Nathany, partner of Afra Tafri. Picture: B. Halder
MELODY MAKERS: Musical Fingers, a city-based music school, presented their eighth annual concert at Kala Mandir last month. An instrumental piece featured 32 students who shared the stage with trumpet player Kishore Sodha. The team regaled with songs such as Mone pore Ruby Ray, Jaane kahan gaye woh din and Ajeeb dastan hai yeh. Shanoli Sen, the head of Musical Fingers, joined her students to play Edelweiss and La Paloma. Sen and Sodha then got together for a duet session. Sodha’s trumpet solos and Sen’s solos on piano accordion and melodica drew loud applause.
