We know her as Koel Mallick but Rukmini is her “bhalo naam” and Koel her nickname! “I love being called both Koel and Rukmini. My school friends call me Rukmini and everywhere else I am known as Koel.”

“I like being called Baban. Some of my close friends in the industry know this name and call me by it. It’s a concoction of names people would call me after I was born,” laughed Parambrata Chattopadhyay.

BUMBA
“I love my nickname, even the cops on the roads call me Bumbada! My friends in Mumbai call me Bumbada too,” said Prosenjit.

CHUMKI
“The name was given to me by my father and I absolutely love being called Chumki. At home, Ma and my brother call me Chumki,”smiled Rituparna Sengupta.

PIU
“I love being called Piu more than Payel. Piu is a sweet, lovely name and I think Piu means bird,” said Payel Sarkar.

GINTU
“I love Gintu, it’s a name given to me by Baba, right after I was born. My sister calls me Ginu. I looked like a doll, so Baba named me Gintu!”laughed Shrabanti.

BONTY
“I am not fond of my pet name. I think our parents name us when we are kids and forget that it might sound very annoying when you grow up!”Mainak Bhaumik signed off.

JHIKMIK, JHILMIL
“I love my nicknames. They were given to me by my loved ones and it feels special to be called Jhikmik or Jhilmil,” said Sreelekha Mitra.

MAWNA
“I hate my nickname. Everyone in my para calls me ‘Ei Mawna’ and it pisses me off completely!” said Tanushree Chakraborty.

NAANI
“We used to have Nepali domestic helps and they named me Naani (in Nepali means a kid). Earlier I used to get very embarrassed about it but now I am okay with it. I find it cute and sweet,” said Parno Mittra.

DOLU
“Though my nickname is Dolu, everyone in the family calls me Dolls, Dollzie, Doll or Dolly. In Tollywood, only Rituparno Ghosh knew my nickname and was allowed to call me Dolu! Let’s just say I prefer Raima and with affection Rai works too,” said Raima Sen.

BHEBLI
“I used to hate my nickname because the moment people would come to know that my name is Bhebli they would LOL! But courtesy Rituda (Rituparno Ghosh) and Bumbada (Prosenjit), Bhebli became my proper name both in my personal and professional life. The only friend who calls me Swastika has a nickname which is the colour of my blood (Suman Mukhopadhyay’s nickname is Laal)!” smiled Swastika Mukherjee.

PAO
“I love being addressed as Pao because it was given to me by my parents and I love it when they call me by that name at home,” said Paoli Dam.

BUA
“I hate my nickname! I have been ragged by my cousins so much for this name! They would say Bua in Hindi means Pishi, so I am a Pishima!” said Ushasie.

PUTAI
“My uncle had named me Putai and I hate it to the core. I don’t understand why somebody would name a girl Putai!” cribbed Subhashree.

ROMI
“I hate it when people call me Romi. I am Gargee. Period. I don’t even know what Romi means,” said Gargee Roy Chowdhury.
