SINGLEHOOD: The cast and crew of Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha’s Ekla Cholo got together at Mukti World on Sunday evening. June plays a single mother in Ekla Cholo, Sayoni her daughter and Anindya Chatterjee her boyfriend. All is well till Sayoni decides to be a mother through sperm donation. “Ekla Cholo is a very today’s film, but it’s not Vicky Donor. A lot of women today are opting to be single moms through sperm donation and IVF,” said Sudeshna. But there’s a twist in the release tale of Ekla Cholo. The two-hour film will be premiered first on Zee Bangla Cinema. “Ekla Cholo will air on Zee Bangla Cinema Originals on January 18, 9pm. And the theatrical release will be after that. We are doing it the other way round because as it is the bulk of the revenue for a film comes through satellite, so why not release a film on TV first and then release it in theatres? That way the word-of-mouth too will be great and as it is films are not really doing well box-office wise but people are hooked to TV,” said Sudeshna. Prosenjit’s Nideas Creations and Productions has produced Ekla Cholo. “We should encourage more directors to make films on original subjects for television,” said Prosenjit. Pictures: Pabitra Das
