Microdramas are steadily carving out a space in India’s digital entertainment landscape. These short-form narratives span genres ranging from romance and family drama to thrillers and comedy, offering audiences quick and accessible entertainment. Their ability to tell emotionally engaging stories within a limited runtime has made them particularly appealing to viewers looking for content that fits seamlessly into their daily routines.

The Bengali microdrama Love Lokshan brings together romance, intrigue and suspense in a story filled with deception, ambition and emotional entanglements. The microdrama follows Shanta (Ushasie Chakraborty), a seemingly devoted caregiver who enters the life of wealthy businessman Ranjan Sarakar (Kaushik Chakraborty) with hidden motives. As she and her partner, Pritam (Rishav Basu), set a carefully planned scheme in motion, unexpected complications arise when Mallika (Angana Roy) is drawn into their world. Love Lokshan also stars Rohaan Bhattacharjee.

“I always like to experiment with different characters and mediums. Microdramas are fairly new in India, so I wanted to see what this medium would be like. Primarily, this is what drew me to do a microdrama. When they narrated the story to me, it felt like something that I had not done before. My character Mallika is an ordinary woman who gets trapped in extraordinary circumstances. Driven by love and financial pressure, she makes some wrong choices, but at her core, she is someone who only wants to protect and support her family. What makes Mallika unique is that she isn’t naturally a scammer. She is pushed into that world by circumstances and emotions. Even when she makes mistakes, her intentions are never malicious,” said Angana.

Speaking about the project, director Anirban Malik shared his thoughts on the story’s unique premise. “At its core, Love Lokshan explores a fascinating premise: what happens when the hunted turn hunters. That shift in power and perspective is what drives the story and keeps the audience engaged throughout the journey,” he said.

Malik also praised the cast for their dedication and energy throughout the production process. “It was an absolute pleasure working with such an ensemble cast who brought incredible energy, vibrancy and talent to the set. Their enthusiasm and chemistry created a wonderful atmosphere, making the entire shooting experience smooth and enjoyable,” he added.

Highlighting the growing popularity of the microdrama format, Malik emphasised the creative challenges and opportunities it presents. “One of the most exciting aspects of working on a microdrama is the challenge of telling a compelling story within a minute. It pushes you to find fresh and innovative ways of storytelling while still creating an emotional connection with the audience. For viewers, it is the perfect format for today’s fast-paced lifestyle. You can take a quick break and immerse yourself in a story anytime, anywhere. All you need is the device in your hand,” he said. Love Lokshan is currently streaming on the BULLET Microdrama app.
